As the first large-scale public food forest, this garden has captured the imaginations of people all around the world with visions of how communities can come together in urban places to grow food and revitalize the landscape with community gardening permaculture practices. It combines aspects of native habitat rehabilitation with edible forest gardening. The design of this seven-acre site provides opportunities for cultural exchange and understanding, education, and recreation. Participants will be guided on a tour of the two acre phase one construction, learn about the project’s history, and the designer’s role in working with the community to convert this site into an edible forest ecosystem. http://www.beaconfoodforest.org/
Presenter Bio:
Margarett Harrison is principal and owner of Harrison Design Landscape Architecture. She has over 27 years of experience as a licensed landscape architect and certified arborist. Margarett's design leadership merges a guiding, experiential vision with innovative and precise detailing. She focuses her efforts on resolving the complex relationships between people and environments at any scale, from very small to very large. She brings this experience and inventive creativity to all her projects.
